Double cleansing is based on the use of two types of cleansers: an oil-based one and a foaming one. It is suitable for all skin types, from oily to dry, sensitive or mature.
Let's look at the two fundamental steps of this technique:
1. Cleansing by affinity
The first step of double cleansing involves using an oil-based facial cleanser that works by "affinity" to dissolve and remove make-up, excess sebum, impurities, and smog; cleansing by affinity is based on the concept that like dissolves like. Oils and butters are able to bind with the fatty component of dirt that accumulates on our skin, effectively and gently removing it, preparing the skin for the second step.
2. Cleansing by contrast
The second step involves using a foaming cleanser that works by "contrast," utilizing the ability of surfactants to attach to and remove dirt. This means using a cleanser with surfactants to remove any remaining make-up, excess sebum, and any oily residue left from the first step, providing an immediate sensation of freshness and radiance to the skin, deeply pampering it.
